Over the past two decades, the use of laser technology in the field of medical aesthetics has expended to cover more and more applications, and the laser machine has become an integral part of the physician’s clinic setup.
This article will focus on the use of lasers on the face.
“Laser” is an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of light.
The machines are usually named based on the type of lasing medium they contain. Hence, we have the CO2, Nd:YAG, diode lasers etc.
Each laser emits energy in one particular wavelength that’s specific to the laser type. Because different targets in the skin will absorb different wavelengths, this property allows selectivity in the application of the various lasers. Obviously, some lasers function more effectively on certain conditions than others; equally obvious is that no one type of laser can treat all lesions and blemishes optimally on its own.
Here, we discuss the more common conditions of the face and the various lasers used to treat them:
Pigmentary lesions such as freckles, seborrhoeic keratosis, melasma are frequently treated with Q-switched lasers like Q-switched Nd-YAG and Q-switched alexandrite.
Vascular lesions like spider veins and port wine stains are amenable to laser treatment by the long-pulsed Nd-YAG and pulsed dye laser.
Facial hair removal is effectively done with alexandrite, diode and Nd-YAG lasers.
Post acne scars are visibly improved with laser resurfacing by CO2 or erbium:YAG lasers. Recent introduction of “fractional” CO2 and Erbium has provided patients with the option of resurfacing with much less downtime and side effects.
Skin tightening and lifting can be achieved using lasers at the infrared light range. Long-pulsed lasers at other wavelengths are also effective, especially when combined with radiofrequency devices.
It is clear from the above short discussion that a number of different lasers are required to provide for a more comprehensive solution to the myriad of skin lesions that we frequently encounter.
It’s not surprising then, that at NeuGlow, we find ourselves necessarily equipped with numerous lasers of all shapes and sizes, and needing every single one of them!

Botox in NeuGlow
Botox treatment is presently the most popular non invasive treatment in the world today. Botox is a brand name for a protein that relaxes certain part of specific muscles that causes wrinkles of facial expression.
It does this by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle will relax , which in turn causes the wrinkles to relax and soften.
As a result, the face will have a more relaxed, lifted look and the skin texture will be smoother.
How Does Botox Work?
Small, diluted amounts is injected through a very tiny needle directly into specific muscles causing controlled relaxation of the muscles.
In April 2002, Botox gained FDA approval for treatment of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles.
It is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye) and frown lines
How Is the Procedure Performed?
The procedure takes only a few minutes. Botox is injected with a very fine needle just under the skin into specific muscles with only minor discomfort.
In NeuGlow we will try our best to make our patients as comfortable by minimizing the discomfort during the procedure. It generally takes three to seven days to take effect. Best results are seen after 2 weeks. The effects from Botox will last three to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear gradually and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax.
What Are the Side Effects of Botox?
Temporary bruising is the most common side effect. Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours can occur, but this is rare. A small percentage of patients may develop a mild eyelid drooping by migration of the Botox and for this reason, you shouldn’t rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection This usually resolves in three weeks. There have been no allergies associated with Botox to date.
Who Should Not Receive Botox Injection?
Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a nervous system disease should not use Botox. Since Botox doesn’t work for all wrinkles, a consultation with a doctor is recommended.
In today’s society there is a major emphasis placed on youth and vitality. With progress being made in a number of areas that have allowed people to seemingly remain younger longer, more and more people are choosing to delay the effects of aging, such as wrinkles. For a long time wrinkles appeared as one aged, seemingly alerting the world to their growing older. One of the growing trends for aging in today’s society is Botox treatment. Botox treatment has allowed clients to remain seemingly ageless by stopping wrinkles in their tracks once they begin to appear.
In NeuGlow we strive to make these treatments comfortable, affordable and safe.

Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing is treatment option for individuals longing to treat acne scars and signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, saggy / lax skin and dark pigmentation. This laser resurfacing technology makes it possible to achieve healthy & more youthful looking skin with minimal post-treatment recovery time. A single Fractional Resurfacing treatment can improve skin texture and colour (e.g. sun / age spots) while softening lines and wrinkles.
The Fractional Laser Resurfacing system works by utilising tiny beams on light energy to the superficial and mid layers of the skin with little discomfort. The word, “Fractional” implies that only a fraction of the skin’s surface is exposed to the laser light. This helps to speeden natural healing, allowing for a shorter healing time. Once the fractional laser beams passes under the skin, the production of collagen is stimulated (for up to 6 months after treatment) and new collagen forms.
Possible Areas of Treatment:
- Face
- Neck
- Hands
- Chest

Time and tide wait for no one. Your face is your most important feature and over time, changes to you face occur naturally. As we age, our skin tissues weaken, lose their resilience and are unable to maintain their firm, youthful position. This happens most often in the mid to lower portion of the face, and may results in the development of deep lines in the cheeks, and around the mouth and loose skin along the jawline.
Now there’s a way you can redefine your face and restore your youth. Introducing the 30 minute Restylane® facelift to lift your face naturally.
How does Restylane® FaceLift Work?
Restylane® is the Hyaluronic acid injectable gel used in the new and natural Restylane® facelifting treatment. It enhances your natural looks by restoring your skin’s volume and giving you an instant facelifting effect. Available only from a medically qualified professional, this facelifting treatment offers you the immediate natural results you are looking for in a quick, simple approach.
Restylane® is produced by Swedish bio-tech leader Q-Med’s patented NASHA (stabilised non-animal Hyaluronic acid) technology with more than 10 million treatments worldwide. And because it is 99% the same as the Hyaluronic acid in our bodies, it is the purest form available. GIving you a simple, safe product that offers longer lasting results. The perfect solution for a natural facelift and the ideal formula for the Restylane® facelifting procedure.
The Hyaluronic acid used is very close to the Hyaluronic acid that occurs naturall in your skin for creating volume. When used as part of the Restylane® facelift treatment, the skin fills our creating a lifting effect, making it smoother, tauter and instantly diminishing the appearance of lines.
